Jonathan Safran Foer created (sic!) his most unusual book – a true work of art – with “The Tree of Codes” for Visual Editions in 2010 and I was instantly captured by his idea:

“I took my favorite book, Bruno Schulz’s Street of Crocodiles, and by removing words carved out a new story”. I cannot possibly recommend both Schulz’s original as well as Safran Froer’s remix enough.

Since the book couldn’t be issued as hardcover for technical reasons, I began developing concepts for a metal slipcase.
In cooperation with a brilliant German metal craftsman, who has also done extensive work for the Porsche motor company, we created a kind of open slipcase with 3 different layers corresponding to the cut-outs inside the book. The case is palladium-plated and perfectly protects this delicate and rare book.
