A Distillate of Heresy contains four stories, each of them at once comprising a key, a weapon, an oracle, and a torch. A woman gains illicit access to a penthouse in the depth of winter; between its walls lies a devastating transformation. A ceremonial initiation is brutally interrupted, casting the initiate upon troubled and uncertain waters. The subtle alteration of a map affects a profound shift in the boundaries of an old hotel. A relic concealed in an impossible place finds expression in the dreams and memories of an enthusiast. Whether they take the reader beneath the royal star in the heart of the scorpion, deep into occupied territory, or into the treacherous depths of an electronic game whose magnitude exceeds its capacity, these narratives have been fashioned as drops of poison intended to corrupt the known. But in corruption is found new life. In putrefaction, we hope to germinate a seed—the concentrated distillate of heresy.
